The Circle of Life is the only significant embroidery created using
Opus Anglicanum techniques in over 500 years. The project was
conceived by the Worshipful Company of Upholders and was unveiled at
the Guildhall in the City of London in July 2026, at an event to mark
the 400th anniversary of the grant of the Livery Company’s Royal
Charter.
The work has been completed by a team of 107 volunteers, stitching for
more than a year in 12 English Cathedrals, plus one prison. The design
is by iconographer Aidan Hart, the training, project management and
implementation was undertaken by the Royal School of Needlework. |
